Bart Wayne Mortensen, age 80, passed away peacefully, at his home in Parowan, Utah on March 2, 2021. His struggle with Alzheimer’s disease is finally over. He was born April 14, 1940 in Parowan, Utah, to Bart and Vera (Robinson) Mortensen. Wayne was raised in Parowan, along with his five older sisters and one brother. During his twenties, he served an LDS mission to Toronto, Ontario Canada, obtained his Bachelor of Science at College of Southern Utah and served in the 222 Unit of the Army National Guard based in Cedar City. In the 1970’s, he switched to the 405th Air Force reserve unit based at Hill Airforce Base. This more closely aligned with his life-long interest in aviation. He received his private pilot license at age 16 and eventually had his own small plane. During his mid-twenties he moved to Fullerton, California, where he taught high school science and math. California is where he met and married his life-long companion, Yetta Marie Hanson in the Los Angeles Temple on March 21, 1970. In 1974, they moved to Murray, Utah where they raised their four children. He loved anything outdoors and spending time with his family. He was never complacent, and was always working. He included his children in many of his home projects. Being a master carpenter and skilled in many areas, he taught his children well. His main church assignment was in scouting. He is greatly loved by family and friends.

He is preceded-in death by his parents, siblings: Lila, Norman, Elma, Florence and Dolline; and grandson, Joseph. He is survived by his sister Zella (Darryl) Schramm; wife Yetta; daughter Gayle; and sons Ryan (Pamela), Branden (Trina) and Travis (Mallory); 5 grandsons and 6 granddaughters.

A viewing will be held March 8, 2021 from 9:30 -10:30 am at Parowan’s 3rd ward. A service will be held at 11:00 am. The interment will be at the Parowan City Cemetery Under the direction of Affordable Funeral Services.
