Obituary for Billy Louis Caldwell

At the age of 94, Billy Louis Caldwell passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his
son’s home in Cedar City, Utah, on March 27, 2022. Billy was born on August 17, 1927 to
Homer and Nova Truelove Caldwell in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Billy had no brothers or
sisters but was greatly loved by his parents, aunts and uncles while a youth.
Billy was a very active child and loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed running and was known
to be a very fast runner. He went to Capital Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He joined the Navy towards the end of War World II and served as an Navy Armorer in San
Francisco, California. He was also assigned to greet and welcome military personnel
returning home from War as they stepped off Navy Ships and back on the ground of the
USA. While in the Navy, he enjoyed boxing and once was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.
He was also an excellent Marksman.
After his military service, he returned to Oklahoma City and became a truck driver. He met
and dated Carmen Loretta Everett in 1948. They were married on May 14, 1948. He then
became a Bus driver for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He enjoyed the game of Baseball very
much. He was a very good baseball player and mostly played the Third Baseman position.
He was eventually recruited for the Semi-Professional Baseball Team called the Oklahoma
City Indians.
Billy and Carmen had two children born to them, a son, Ronald Lee and a daughter, Deanna
Kay.
Billy worked at many different jobs. He drove a concrete mixer, had his own TV and Radio
repair business, and sold and serviced automobiles. He spent most of his life working at Car
and RV dealerships both in sales and service. He was very customer-service oriented and he
had a knack for making people feel special and important.
Although he was an avid bird hunter, he had two passions of buying/selling horses and
playing golf. He bought and sold too many horses to count. He also, for a while, raised and
trained racing greyhound dogs. Billy played golf for many years and won several amateur
golf tournaments. He also made three hole-in-one’s at different times in his life.
Billy lived in several different places in Oklahoma, Texas and Utah. He lived in Parowan,
Utah on two different occasions. His last place of residence was in Comanche, Texas. In
2018, he had a mild stroke at which time he came to Utah to live with his son and daughter-
in-law.
Billy is survived by his son, Ron (Colleen) Caldwell of Cedar City, Utah and daughter Deanna
Kremser of Longview, Texas. He was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren,
and 11 great-great grandchildren with three more on the way.
The family wishes to thank their IHC Hospice team for their guidance and the wonderful
care they gave to Billy this past year. Many, many thanks to them.
Interment will be at the Parowan City Cemetery in Parowan, Utah.
