Obituary for Shanna Dawn Shapiro (Thurber)

Shanna Dawn Shapiro (Thurber)
Shanna Dawn (Thurber) Shapiro, age 53, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on June 5, 2017, in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on September 7, 1963 in Cedar City, Utah, to Karl G. and Viola (Lillywhite) Thurber.
Shanna is the 6th of 9 children. She lived in Parowan, Escalante, and West Valley City, Utah. Growing up she loved gymnastics, running, nature, and anything outdoors. She graduated from Granger High School. She served an LDS Mission to San Antonio Texas. Shanna enjoyed learning about many different things. She attended BYU, BYU Hawaii, and Beauty School. She looked into becoming a pilot but didn't meet the height requirements. She also looked into Naturopathic Medicine. She loved plants and herbs and learned all she could about them and used the knowledge she gained throughout her life. Her work for many years included helping troubled youth as a counselor and Trail Guide for Red Cliff, and Anasazi wilderness survival programs. Shanna even became a Truck Driver and drove for one year with her husband.
Shanna met and fell in love with Ethan Shapiro and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple April 24, 2004. Three years later they welcomed Todd Ephraim Shapiro into their lives and he quickly became the center of attention in their home.
Shanna loved her role as wife and mother! She enjoyed every part of raising their precious Todd! She also loved to garden and spend time out doors camping, taking care of her horse, chickens, and goats. She and her husband built a Walapini (an underground greenhouse) and were able to grow vegetables year round.
Her favorite family vacation was Magic Mountain. She yearned to get well so they could go again as a family.
Shanna loves her Savior dearly and strove to emulate Him. She was kind, caring, forgiving, and thoughtful to all she met. She has"fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith" through all her earthly challenges. We miss her immensley! She will be loved by us all eternally!
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 10, 2017 at the Three Peaks Ward in Enoch, Utah at 1:00 p.m.
