Dale Lyman Eckley, 74, of Cedar City, Utah, passed away peacefully on 3/27/2022 after a courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by family.
Dale was born on September 9th, 1947, to Paul Lyman Eckley and Jennie Bell Davis in Alton, Illinois. After finishing high school, Dale continued his education at Polk State College in Florida, where he graduated with a degree in nursing.
After college, Dale began working as a nurse at South Florida Baptist Hospital, beginning a career of nearly 50 years in the field of nursing.
Dale met his wife Linda in 1970. They were married on 12/17/1971. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in August of 1973 and they were sealed on 12/17/1974 in the Washington DC Temple. Dale served in several callings, including seminary teacher, branch president, bishopric councilor, ward bishop, high councilman, and temple worker. Dale and Linda have 7 children, Robin, Jason, Matthew, Jody, Dannon, Todd, and Chad.
Dale held several positions during his career including Director of Surgical Services, Director of Nursing, Clinical Educator, Nursing Supervisor, and Chief Nursing Officer. Dale retired from nursing in 2017 from Intermountain Healthcare in Provo, Utah and moved to Cedar City, Utah where he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Dale enjoyed running and completed 14 marathons and dozens of other races. He would often run with co-workers, family, and friends along the Provo River Trail near his home in Provo, Utah. Dale was an avid BYU sports fan. He also loved playing baseball and collecting baseball cards. When he wasn’t playing it, he was watching it on TV, always rooting for his team, the New York Yankees. In 2021, his daughter Dannon and her husband Trent built a baseball field on their property and named it Eckley Field, where Dale threw the inaugural opening pitch. Dale also enjoyed collecting yoyos and toy cars. In retirement, he enjoyed feeding and watching birds in his backyard.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents Paul Lyman Eckley and Jennie Bell Davis. He is survived by his wife Linda, children Dale Eckley Jr, Dalena (Allen) Peters, Robin (Bryan) Beckstrom, Jason Eckley, Matthew (Cristina) Eckley, Jody (Rachel) Eckley, Dannon (Trent) Denison, Todd Eckley, Chad (Kylene) Eckley, and 29 grandchildren.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3575 N Minersville Hwy, Enoch, Utah, 84721 on Thursday, March 31st. There will be a viewing from 10am-11:30am. The funeral will begin at noon, followed by a graveside service at Cedar City Cemetery.
