Obituary for Daren Cottam

Daren K. Cottam was born October 3, 1965 in Cedar City, UT to Laura and Kent Cottam. He grew up in Cedar City and spoke of fond memories of working on a nearby farm helping to move sprinklers. He went to Dixie Junior High, Dixie High School, and Dixie College before graduating from Southern Utah University with his bachelors in business. Daren also enjoyed his time as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Georgia Atlanta mission.

He married Lisa Dennision on July 1, 1989 in the St. George LDS Temple. They have raised four children, Troy, Adrianne, AmberLee, and Abbey, in the Hurricane valley. His greatest love in life was being a husband and a father. He was always very driven and excited when it came to anything business related. After working many years for his dad, Daren and his brothers became owners of AT-Asphalt, where he spent most of his career. He traveled all over the world, and especially loved to attend sporting events. He was a die hard Minnesota Vikings and BYU football fan, and attended as many games in person as he could. Daren also had a passion for politics. He served on LaVerkin and Toquerville city councils and was proud of the time he spent serving the community. He was also proud to have helped with any part of getting roads paved in both LaVerkin and Toquerville, and would take many little detours on drives with his family to show them off. He was active in his church and held many positions, including serving in two bishoprics and the High Counsel, and most importantly as the patriarch of his family.

Music was always a passion of his, especially the music from his high school years. In this past year he was able to visit La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain where he was able to listen to the song by Alan Parsons Project of the same name and cross that off his bucket list. He loved family history and read a lot about his ancestors. He was able to accomplish his goal of finding and visiting some of the existing homes and churches of his ancestors in England and Italy. Daren’s granddaughter, Carter, brought him much joy and was a highlight of life for him this last year. He suffered multiple strokes and other health problems the last eight months of his life. Daren is now able to rest and has returned to live with his Heavenly Father.
