Obituary for Jami Eileen Vasquez (McElfresh)
Jami Eileen Vasquez’ McElfresh, age 39, unexpectedly passed away in her home on November 5Th, 2019 in Paragonah, Utah.
She was born on October 7Th, 1980, in Provo, Utah to James Milton and Jeanese Roberts McElfresh. Two years later they welcomed a beautiful sister to the family, Jennifer Jayne “J.J.”, and the two of them took the family by storm, hand-in-hand.
Jami’s childhood was spent living in such lovely states as Texas, Arizona and Utah. She later moved to Parowan, with her family, where she attended High School, having friends from all diverse backgrounds, including the Navajo community.
After High School Jami had several different jobs that she loved and exceled at, one of which was being a Nail Technician. Jami loved the beauty industry and appreciated dressing up and wearing makeup. She also loved to cook, learning from her Grandma Eileen and family. It blessed her being able to share this gift and talent with many.
Jami had the privilege of living with the wonderful Quezada family for years, where she’d learn to speak, read and write in Spanish.
Jami would later meet her future husband, Marcelino Vasquez, marring on October 22nd, 2002, spending 12 beautiful years together, where she’d further fall in love with the Mexican culture, music, food and community- one in which she invested in, respected, adored, sharing her time teaching English classes to all who wanted to learn.
Jami had the joy of visiting and temporarily living in Mexico, where she was treated as a local, being as her dialect was exactly that of the city she was living in.
Jami was so very passionate about music, especially Tejano, in specific Selena Quintanilla Perez and other Bandas like Los Angeles Azules. She would sing in her car and dance ‘til her heart was content. Jami loved Mexican soccer and Oscar De La Hoyas boxing team.
Jami treasured her time being a wife, homemaker and dog-mom of three, keeping her tiny family close to her heart. She loved all things Texas, including the Dallas Cowboys, where she’d cheer and celebrate, screaming loudly with her dad and baby sister.
Those who knew Jami throughout her life truly knew what a light she was to the world. She collected angels, believed in the meaning behind them and was a servant and advocate for those with mental heath issues, as she struggled with her own. Jami is and was loved beyond measure, by more people than she could’ve ever imagined, in her short, but well lived life. She will never, and could never be forgotten.

Jami is survived by her parents, sister J.J. and many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she adored. She is preceded in death by her grandparents James Milton McElfresh, Eileen Arnold McElfresh, Floyd H. Roberts, Drexel Haslam Roberts, Uncle Lennis Joe Roberts, Aunt Sally Roberts and Aunt Cindy Roberts.
Funeral Services and a celebration of Jami’s life will be held Saturday November 16Th, 2019 at 12:00 PM in the Paragonah Ward Building at 79 North Main Street, Paragonah, UT- 84760.
Viewing will be held prior to the funeral, from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Paragonah Ward.
Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetary. Arrangements under the direction of Affordable Funeral Services. Online condolences can be sent at www.affordablefuneralservices.com
