Jerry Don Rupe, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, after battling IPF.

Jerry was born on May 6, 1935, in Holdenville, Oklahoma to George Washington Rupe and Naomi Maxine Rupe. He married Lois Gail Widrig on January 1, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they raised 6 children. They are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where they faithfully served and were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple.

Jerry joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department in 1967 and retired from the Metro Vice Division in 1992. Jerry was honored for not using deadly force when he and his partners were attacked by a woman running at them with a knife.

He will forever be known as kind, loving, and always giving. He was the epitome of unconditional love. You knew he loved you, always, no matter what. He gave the best hugs and was always expecting one, when you arrived and left. His many loves included fine dining, cruising, Pfeffer (although he preferred Euchre and he would always tell you so), crossword puzzles, sudoku, puzzles, woodworking, live entertainment, movies, to name a few; but most of all, he loved his family.

His neighbors knew him as the Blockbuster Video of Enoch. He and Lois would constantly buy new VHS/DVD’s, especially Disney, and the families in his neighborhood would come to the house get a movie, and as they would leave, they would be directed to the 2nd refrigerator for drinks, which was full of a variety of sodas, one for each member of their family and of course, the famous basket full of regular size candy bars.

We had to share our dad as he tirelessly coached the youth in baseball, softball, volleyball, and basketball. At times he would do this and work a second job. He also did labor intensive fundraisers so that the youth would have the best looking and most comfortable uniforms you could get.

He is survived by his children: Robin Rupe, Mike (Leslie Reese) Rupe, Rick (Lisa) Rupe, Jerianne (Al) Latourelle, 36 grandchildren 46 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Gail, 2 sons Richard (Dick) Rupe, Ronald Rupe and grandson, William Latourelle.

Funeral Services will be held at 451 E. Midvalley Rd. in Enoch, Utah, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 am with a viewing held from 9:30 to 10:30, just prior to the funeral service. Friends and family are welcome. Interment and the Dedication of the grave will be at the Enoch Cemetery under the direction of Heartlight Affordable Funeral Services 435-586-3456.

As a family we would like to give a big thank you to the nurses of Horizon Home Health whom Jerry loved and gave him the best of love and care.
