Obituary for Kathleen B Stones

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Kathleen Bess Stones, passed away
suddenly on October 10, 2021, at her home in Parowan, Utah, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was born November 24, 1941, in Cedar City, Utah, to Willard James and Cleo Alger
Bess. She grew up and attended school in Parowan, graduating from Parowan High School in
1960. She was a beautiful lady and very talented in twirling a baton which helped her earn the
title of 1 st attendant in the Miss Iron County Pageant. She married her high school sweetheart
James Alan Stones, October 8, 1960. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS
Temple. Kathleen loved children and helped to raise many kids in the community, giving them
a loving and safe place to stay while their parents were working. Her home was always filled
with lots of kids, and lots of love. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints and taught primary for several years. She volunteered many hours running the
concession stand for the Parowan Little League program. Kathleen loved to hunt, go for rides in
the mountains, play Pokemon, and do crossword puzzles. She also loved watching NASCAR, BYU
sports, and the Utah Jazz. She was a wonderful cook, and it was always a treat when she would
make her famous hot fudge cake for birthday celebrations. Kathleen was a very strong person
who faced the trials in her life with faith and determination. She was a breast cancer survivor
and for several years she lovingly took care of her husband Alan who suffered from Alzheimer’s.
Kathleen was very tender-hearted, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sister Betty Jo Robb, sister-in-laws Janet Bess and Betty Stones, her
children Dan (Jayne) Stones, Jackie (Troy Orton), Laurie Kaye (Tony Gifford), Kelly Stones, and
Shanda (Jeff) Hunt. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren (with
one on the way). She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Antone Stones,
brothers Ray, Ronald, and Kenneth Bess, and sisters Cleone Richardson and Janet Thornton.
She is also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Marla Stones, and great-granddaughter
Jayla Keene.
