Obituary for LaMar E Smith

La Mar E. Smith passed away peacefully on May 18, 2021 from a tired heart and causes incident to age. Born March 7th 1935 to Elmer and Ina Heyborne Smith. He was the only child born to that union. His Father died when he was fourteen years old. His Mother passed when he was nineteen years of age. As a child La Mar had the companionship of two half brothers and a sister, Mary Lou Corlett Church, currently of Panguitch. She walked him to kindergarten and stayed until he was okay to be on his own.. Lewis and Charles Corlett, now deceased. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
La Mar joined the Air Force after graduating High School in Cedar City. He spent a lot of that time in Japan. La Mar then worked for a company in Southern California for a time. Though the job paid well and had lots of opportunities, his heart belonged to the mountains of Southern Utah where he grew up and went fishing with his family.
He worked for the Westwood Excelsior plant locally and several other jobs, before taking care of sheep for some local ranchers; Sandy Webster, Brent Hunter, Jack Smith and finally Ed Larson and Jennifer for many years. He loved the mountains, and certain solitary times, more than anything in life. Usually quiet and very shy he often stayed in the company of a small circle of friends.
La Mar was generous to those near him, saving money out of a tight budget to gift others with tokens of appreciation from time to time. He loved to carve wooden canes, and passed many happy hours preparing them for his friends. So artistic and useful. His dog Bobby was a constant companion and helped him for many years keep the sheep in tow. When Ed died, La Mar retired from his work on the mountain. Daniel and Diane Perkins became his family, and watched over him during his declining years.

Sincere and unmeasurable Thanks to Iron County Home Health. Marie, Sherry and Brenda have served with love, kindness, and valor for many years. Thanks to his neighbor Terry who kept an eye out for him.

A Life celebration will be held at a later date.
