Obituary for Linley Frances Jefferson

Linley F Jefferson

Linley Jefferson passed away peacefully on July 20, 2022 at the Milford Valley Memorial Hospital. She was 87 years old. Linley was born on September 22, 1934 in Dunedin, New Zealand to George and Loretta Spears. She attended Otago Girls School in 1945, and completed her nursing training in 1958. Linley briefly lived in London and Italy before immigrating to the United States. Her move to the US was prompted by an advertisement she responded to in a local newspaper where registered nurses were needed in Milford, Utah. Shortly after arriving, she met Richard Jefferson who became the love of her life. He was a dedicated, loyal and loving husband until the day he died in 2010, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together.

Linley worked as a RN at Milford Valley Memorial hospital for 45 years retiring in 2007. She was deeply loved and respected among her peers, co-workers, patients and throughout all of Beaver County. Aside from her lifelong career in nursing, her other interests included a love of reading, and she was a truly gifted gardener. Flowers were her passion and cooking warmed her soul. She joyfully served others by sharing some of her favorite dishes or preparing a friend’s favorite meal. Some folks said she made the best banana bread in the county. She had a quick wit and an impressive intellect until the very end. Her vibe and persona had an attraction and ability to draw in people of all ages, shapes, sizes and nationalities. You were always intrigued and entertained by her stories, conversations and life experiences. Linley had many friends and she was known as a dear friend to many.

She loved and revered her New Zealand heritage. When asked why she never became an American citizen, she would explain that she would have to denounce her country. “Could you do that?” She would ask in horror! With vigor, her response in typical Linley fashion,..“Well, I couldn’t!” Until her death, she remained a proud and loyal British subject.

Linley is survived by her son, Thomas R. Jefferson of Powell, Wyoming, and a daughter, Elisabeth A. Hennagan of Killdeer, North Dakota. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Darla Frederick of Stockton, California and Janet Jefferson a daughter-in-law, who resides in Lindon, California. She doted and fussed over her two grandchildren, Jackson Travis Redmond and Josie Rose Jefferson. She also has two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Rose Blount and Karlee Ann Redmond both of Powell, Wyoming. In New Zealand, she leaves behind a kind and attentive nephew, Christopher Spears, and two nieces, Katrina and Rogan Spears.

Linley was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jefferson, her brother George Spears of New Zealand whom she dearly loved, and a baby sister, Elisabeth Copper of New Zealand. Also preceding her were her parents, George and Loretta Spears, and step-sons, George Todd Jefferson and Bradley Dean Jefferson. The family would like to thank the staff at Milford Valley Memorial Hospital for their friendship and care of Linley over these last few years. An interment of Linley’s ashes will take place at the Milford cemetery on September 24th at 11am.
