Obituary for Resa Marie Holmes

Resa Marie Simpson Holmes (Our Meme, 84) died sooner than expected on September 16, 2021, at Cedar City Hospital with family by her side. She was diagnosed with terminal Metastatic Melanoma 13 days earlier. We did not realize how quickly it would take her from us.

Resa was born on June 5, 1937, in Spalding Nebraska the second child to Quimby Amos Simpson and Myrtle Marie Porter. She graduated from Duchesne High School in 1955 where she thrived in drama and choir. During her high school years, she won the state soprano competition. Following high school, she married Jack Douglas Moore, later divorced. They raised their family in Kearns, Utah where she was a stay-at-home mom for 10 years and then pursued a career as a dental assistant for 25 years. She married Jim Holmes in December 1990. After retiring from her dental career, she supported Jim’s career endeavors that took them to Bonanza, Utah, Dugway, Utah, and finally landing them in Rhodes, Iowa. Her retirement gave her time to cultivate her passion for gardening, love on her family, and discover her passion for being outside. After she lost the love of her life, she eventually sold their home in Iowa and moved back home to Utah to be closer to family.

Resa was a ball of fun always looking for the next adventure. She liked to play hard, fast and furious. She participated in bowling leagues throughout her life. She was an avid reader loving action and adventure, murder mysteries, and romance. She had a love affair with shopping. Anybody she could get to go with her she would snatch them up and go shopping. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with her family. Resa loved gardening, embroidering, sewing, family gatherings, camping, and long drives. She was always prepared for the next depression with her mad canning and preparation skills. She was more than happy to pass on her work ethic, talents, family recipes, and traditions. Meme was the finest of recyclers before recycling was cool with beans stored in coffee cans and you would never know what you might find in jars or other containers. She could light up the room with her smile and laugh.

Resa was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers, and a grandchild. She is survived by her four children Teresa McDonnell (Mark), Kevin Moore, Jodi Lowrey (Pete), Kent Moore, four step-children Jamie Wienke, Lando Holmes (Tonia), Nicci Holmes, Courtney Savage, her brother Dick Simpson, sister Terri Webb (Dave), 14 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. We will miss her immensely but know we will see her again in the life hereafter and look forward to those happy reunions and parties!

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff who cared for Resa at Cedar City Hospital in her final days. They would also like to thank Dr. Christopher Hull, Dr. Thomas Oberg, Dr. Miguel Villalobos, and Dr. Mark Corry for the continuous compassionate care they gave to Resa over the past few years.
