Obituary for Rose Maud Rynthia Fudge Barney

Rose Fudge Barney, age 86, passed away peacefully in her home on August 4, 2021 due to congestive heart failure. She was born on October 10, 1934 in South Shields, England to Daisy and George Fudge.

When Rose was five years old, England was pulled into a World War that would forever impact Rose’s life and personality. Through faith and dedication to the gospel, her life was spared countless times, and her stories of courage, faith, and endurance will be cherished by her family and friends for generations to come.

Growing up, Rose was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When Rose was 14, she and her mother made the long journey to America so that they could come to Utah and be close to the church. Rose proudly served in many church callings, including 1st Counselor in the Relief Society, Drama Director, Young Women’s Teacher, and as a member of the Stake Sunday School Board. She also supported her husband in his multiple callings.

She met her husband, Bob Barney, in Salt Lake City through a blind date, and they were married on August 19, 1955 and were later sealed for Time and Eternity in the Manti, Utah temple. They made their home first in Sandy, Utah and then in Washington, Utah before settling permanently in Cedar City.

Rose was a woman who had many passions. She came from a musical family and as a child would sing and dance while her father and older brother George played instruments. She carried a love of music throughout her life and could often be found singing while doing her housework. She was particularly fond of waltzes. She had an unforgettable soprano singing voice and was a member of a double quartet when she lived in Washington.

Flowers, especially irises and roses, were another of Rose’s passions, and she was determined to turn the desert into a garden. She loved beautiful things and yearned for the gardens of England that she had left behind so long before. She had a generous heart and blessed many people with the irises she freely gave away.

Rose had an open, inquisitive personality, always thirsting for new ideas, which she found by watching and reading mysteries, though she often read the endings first because she couldn’t wait to find out the mysteries. She also loved learning about history and unique cultures, especially those of Egypt and Hawaii.

Though Rose was self-contained and largely content to be at home, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her summers when her grandchildren were off school were filled with many hours of her sharing her favorite movies and stories with them. Later in life, her enjoyment came simply from talking to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was passionate about sharing her experiences in life with others. Most importantly, she loved her family and worked hard to care for them and instill in them the values that carried her throughout her life.

Rose is survived by three children – Jill (Tracy) Belliston, Joyce (David) Pace, and Robert Barney; five grandchildren – David (Kristen) Belliston, Nichole (Ryan) Taylor, Steve (Ashlan) Belliston, Mike (Carissa) Belliston, and Mandi Olsen; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Husband Bobbie parents, George and Daisy, and her brother George.

As per Rose’s wishes, there will be small service for immediate family members only. Internment will be held at the Enoch City Cemetery.
