Obituary for Rowena Dalton (Thompson)
Rowena Thompson Dalton, age 85, loving wife, mother, sister and dear friend, returned to the arms of her husband of 68 years, her sisters, her son and many other family members. Mom passed away, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, on November 25, 2020, in Enoch, Utah. She was born on April 30, 1935, in Beaver, Utah, to Lewis Hyrum and Essie Idonna (Crosby) Thompson. Mom was the second of six children, four sisters and one brother.
Mom’s education began at Belknap Elementary and many other schools, then ended in Milford High School, where she lacked 2 months from graduating. Instead, she married the love of her life, Harold Max Dalton, on October 8, 1952, while Dad was home on leave. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on July 14, 1965. While living in Caliente, Nevada, with her parents, she gave birth to their first son, while Dad was in Korea. Fourteen months to the day she gave birth to a daughter, then a son, then another daughter. Mom was a stay-at-home mom, so that she could raise their children.
Rowena was a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. Mom taught her daughters how to cook and can and sometimes we showed her. Rowena learned to drive later in life, and she was so glad she had accomplished this task. She could drive and get a job housekeeping.
Mom is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Max, of 68 years; her son, Michael Lee; parents, Lewis H. and Essie Idonna Thompson; sisters, Donna Worthen and Nellie Van Zant; son-in-law, Ted Hansen; father-in-law, Harold William Dalton; Howard and Gertrude Marshall; and grandson, Brian Scott Dalton.
Mom is survived by her son Ronald Max (Jennifer) Dalton; Kathleen Miller; Lynnette (Ted, deceased) Hansen, Eight grand children; 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and one great-great granddaughter on the way.
There will be a viewing on December 5, 2020, from 9:30-10:30am at Affordable Funeral Services (2002 North Main Street). A graveside service will be held at the Enoch City Cemetery at 11:00 am. We ask that attendees wear a mask.
