Obituary for Russell James Pope
Russell James Pope age 57, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer on July 22, 2021 in Cedar city UT. He was born on June 23, 1964 in Riverside CA to James and Sally Pope.
He graduated from Ramona High School (in Riverside,CA). Russell worked as a mechanic early in his adulthood, then he began life in the construction industry. Some of his most memorable projects include: Toontown in Disneyland and The Aladdin in Las Vegas. He finished his career in Cedar City working for Alex Meisner construction until he could no longer work due to his battle with cancer. He stayed hard working even through his sickness building a custom bassinet for his new grandson and a half pipe with his son Troy Pope in their own backyard. He enjoyed working in the yard and going on drives with his best friend and partner Melinda Hernandez.
Russell is survived by two sons: Matthew and Troy Pope, and one daughter Jessica Gardner (Pope) and 7 grandchildren. He will be missed by so many others, as he made such an impact on relatives and our community at large. There will not be a funeral service, Russell’s last wishes were to be cremated and in the months to follow a celebration of life. The date of this event is not yet determined. Invitations will be sent out on a personal basis.
