Shayla Maxwell, age 48, passed away after a lifelong courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy, surrounded by her loving family, on January 3, 2022, in Cedar City Utah. She was born on May 26, 1973 in Enoch, Utah, to Gerald Levi and Carma (Gubler) Maxwell.
Shayla was raised in the great outdoors of Enoch Utah. She loved to travel, and a few of her favorite destinations included hiking to the top of Angels Landing in Zion, traveling to Nauvoo to see Church History sites, many Disneyland trips, and spending her summers at the Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp.
She and her siblings enjoyed camping and hiking, having lunch with Dad at the old Gordo Needo Burrito while he was at work, and getting into mischief while Mom and Dad had date night out.
Shayla graduated from Cedar High School in 1991, and went on to attend college at Southern Utah University. While attending Cedar Middle, Shayla met her lifelong friend Crista (Mumford) Bairett. Crista followed her to college to be her aid, and the two grew even closer when Crista had her daughter, Laura, who also had Muscular Dystrophy. Shayla also made a great friendship with her visiting teaching partner, DeAnn Stopper. The two of them could be found talking books and games, attending plays, and scaring Tucker the dog with pirates.

Shayla had a love for cross stitching, reading, and collecting kaleidoscopes and nativities- it became something of a family challenge to find her next favorite one that she would put on display on her bookcase. Another highlight Shayla was proud of, was doing the Italian indexing work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of which she was a proud and faithful member.

Shayla had a special love for her nieces and nephews, and was always on board for game night, movie night, a walk to get shaved ice or a trip to the park.

Shayla was preceded in death by her siblings, Preston Wickley Maxwell, and Stasha Maxwell. She is survived by her parents, Gerald and Carma (Gubler) Maxwell; her siblings, Lynn (Chris) Maxwell, LuKae (Zane) Bybee, Teri (John) McDaniel, Deena Maxwell and Tana Maxwell; 17 nieces and nephews, and 3 great nieces and nephew. She will be missed by many other friends and family, as her love, laughter and sass were so very contagious.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Enoch 4th Ward (1390 E Midvalley Rd, Enoch, UT) at 12:00 Noon. There will be a viewing prior to services, from 10:00-11:30 AM at the same location. Interment will be at the Enoch City Cemetery, under the direction of Affordable Funeral Services.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who have cared for Shayla over the years, with a special thanks to Dr. North.
